International singing stars Graeme Danby and Valerie Reid are leaving behind the great opera stages of the world to bring a new show to the more intimate surroundings of The Maltings as part of a tour celebrating Songs of the North East.
The pair will be performing a selection of traditional North East songs such as Blow the Wind Southerly, The Keel Row and Sally Wheatley alongside more contemporary numbers by local songwriters Mark Knopfler, Sting and Eric Boswell. The show explores the stories behind the songs and uses photography and video to illustrate the themes.
Written and produced by Tom Kelly and Graeme Thompson. Graeme Danby from Consett in County Durham is one of the world’s most renowned bass singers and his wife mezzo soprano Valerie Reid from Fife in Scotland has performed with English National Opera, Scottish Opera and throughout Europe. The accompanist is Andrew Richardson.
