GÂST: ‘in the best of spirits . . .’
GÂST are visual artist Laura Mahony and Dale Fearnley. Working with archival and time-based media, sculpture and performance, their practice initiates tangible states of play while unearthing narratives that associate people and place.
They have spent the past six months living and working in Berwick-upon-Tweed as artists in residence in partnership with the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University. Throughout the residency GÂST have explored the material and cultural identity of three venues of historic and community importance of Berwick-Upon-Tweed; The Berwick Brown Bear pub, the promenade Amusement Arcade, and Shielfield Park, home to Berwick Rangers FC.
This resulting exhibition uses sound and installation to consider what it means to historicise these sites through echoes of collective memory and identify objects of localised cultural significance that mark such reverberations.
