Do you enjoy interacting with people of all ages from all backgrounds and want to create memorable, enjoyable, and educational experiences for visitors to our forthcoming exhibition, Lowry and the Sea?
Lowry and the Sea is a new exhibition of work by one of Britain’s most recognizable artists LS Lowry, coming to the Granary Gallery this summer. Lowry visited Berwick from the mid-1930s and continued to visit the town until his death in 1976, drawn by its clear air and views out to the North Sea. The exhibition will explore his time in Berwick and his lifelong fascination with the sea.
We are now looking to collaborate with local people who would be interested in training as volunteer guides during the exhibition to develop short tours which will help to explain more about Lowry’s life, and the works in the exhibition to gallery visitors.
No prior guiding experience nor knowledge of L.S. Lowry or visual art is required. All you need is an enthusiasm for interacting with people of all ages from all backgrounds and a wish to help to create memorable, enjoyable, and educational experiences for visitors to the exhibition.
During training, you will learn the skills required to lead a guided tour around the gallery and interpret the works of art in a way that is clear, informative and engaging for visitors.
The training will be delivered by Laura Rhodes and Tess Pike, experienced Blue Badge Tourist Guides qualified to train by the Institute of Tourist Guiding, with support from Berwick Record Office and art historian Maria Chester.
You’ll need to commit to two training days on the 27 March and 17 May in Berwick alongside some online sessions in between and then commit to undertaking guiding of the exhibition between 25 May – 13 October and this can be flexible according to your availability.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please email lyndaswinden.volunteeringnn@gmail.com in the first instance.
If you would like more information about the project, you can drop into an informal information session at the Maltings on Friday 22 March between 4-5 pm.
